Gothic wedding ceremonies tend to be short and simple. Traditional Gothic vows are normally exchanged and of course the color choice for the loving couple is typically black and dark although it can be any color that they choose. These ceremonies are presided over by a celebrant, an individual who is legally authorized to conduct wedding ceremonies. Most Gothic couples take a blood vow when they are introduced as a couple by the celebrant to their wedding guests. Their left wrists are bound together with a red cloth and they both drink out of a goblet filled with red wine, symbolizing their “blood devotion” to one another.
